THE COUNTDOWN IS ON
Welcome to PREM 2028, the 2nd World Congress on Pediatric Emergencies.
The buzz from the first World Congress on Pediatric Emergencies in São Paulo (March 2026) hasn't faded — it's still giving us goosebumps. But it's time to look ahead: the Second World Congress on Pediatric Emergencies is coming, and it's going to be just as mind-blowing.
To make it happen, we're reviving a legend. The iconic Belgian PREM congress — the one you either remember firsthand or know by reputation — is back, and this time it's stepping onto the world stage.
Get ready for a truly unique setting: right on the beach, in the wonderful city of Ostend — Belgium's answer to a coastal capital, just 15 minutes from Bruges.

Managing pediatric emergencies is not easy. Every critical child is in fact a HALO procedure (High acuity, low occurrence). We will guide you through decision making in different contexts and for different pathologies. We look at the broader picture with a ‘mentalist’ keynote speaker (who will stay for some additional workshops), but also go into details of specific pediatric emergencies (encephalitis, vertigo, adrenal insufficiency…). In parallel we will train your practical skills and performance via interactive sessions and workshops. Under the motto ‘everything you wanted to know but were afraid to ask’ our faculty will remain available for up close meetings in our secret loges…

Managing pediatric emergencies is not easy. Communication is crucial but dealing with parents, crying children, stubborn adolescents, colleagues, AI… truly complicate things. No worries, PREM is here to help. We also go in detail on some less known but no less important stuff like dermatology, waveforms, pediatric ECG…. More hands-on wil be the ultrasound workshop and the now already famous escape room (easy to get in but will you ever get out?). Finally, we tackle some elephants in the resusc. room like fluid management, pain management and acute crisis in chronically ill children…

Managing pediatric emergencies is not easy. The world is full of dangers, and we 'PEM' should be 'prepared'. These include dangers in nature (infectious diseases, fire and disasters..), in drugs (both legal and illegal) and finally in humans. We also look at mental health, as well as food and feeding disorders. We look at the present and future of pediatric emergency medicine (resuscitation, imaging..), and train for practical procedures, both diagnostic and therapeutic. Code word for day 3 is PAEDIATRIC PREPAREDNESS so we ask you ARE YOU PREPARED for a pediatric emergency (Do you want to? Can you do so?...)
All plenary sessions will be translated in all languages so everyone can join!!

ABOUT PREM
To fill a perceived gap, to bring together experts from around Europe, to create a community, to promote specific research and education... so many different drivers lead to the first PREM congress (pediatric resuscitation and emergency medicine) in 2013 in Ghent. From the beginning PREM was not a single society initiative but a joint venture of all those involved in pediatric emergencies, be it PEM physicians, anaesthesiologists, paediatric intensive care physicians, paediatricians or the nurses or paramedics involved.
PREM was a success in numbers but even more so in what it brought about. PREM created a community and a cross-professions collaboration and friendship. There were two more PREM congresses in Ghent (2017, 2019) who were equally successful but by then the people involved (and in essence the whole community) got more and more a place and engagement in the paediatric sections (and tracks) of the major relevant international societies (IFEM, EUSEM, EAP, ESPNIC, ESPA…).
And then, March 2026, driven by the idea and vision of a local team of enthusiasts and the rapidly growing support of PEM champions across the globe, there suddenly was THE FIRST WORLD CONGRESS ON PEDIATRIC EMERGENCIES in Sao Paulo, Brasil. This world congress brought the same enthusiasm, community forming and collaboration and that to a new level because now truly global. More than 3000 people attended.
From the beginning it was clear that we could not let this be a single-time event.
Two stories coming together, two stories with a single message:
MEET, LEARN, PLAY, GET SAVED
See you all in OSTEND for THE SECOND WORLD CONGRESS ON PEDIATRIC EMERGENCIES a.k.a. PREM 4…
